What crazy Canada day looks like in trafalgar Square. Hope everyone had an amazing long weekend. I have been super busy here lately, especially as I take on more writing responsibility at www.filmoria.co.uk. Hope everyone can check it out!! Xoxo

New MacBook

So I’m home in Toronto for a week.  And as its Thursday i am slowly realizing that a week is not enough time at all.  I have had the time to visit the important people but not necessarily the places.  I haven’t been to Yorkville.  I haven’t been to the Tim Burton exhibit at the new TIFF theatres downtown at the Bell lightbox.  I haven’t really been to any of my old haunts.  I haven’t been to spring rolls.  However, i did get to go to the Apple store.  and bought myself a new toy in a new Macbook.  It’s so pretty.  and fast.  And I just thought that i would share :)  Hopefully this will make me want to blog more.  No guarantees though.  With starting to write reviews and things perhaps i just need more time, not a new computer :)

Something New…

So anyone who knows me knows I love film. Most weekends I am at the movies or watching a DVD. So the other day I was on twitter when some film person (who started following me for some reason) asked if anyone wanted to contribute to the website. So I replied. And now I’m a published film reviewer. Now, turns out in my research that the movie I reviewed, Fair Game, had been out in north America since last November but no matter. The editor of the website didn’t change a thing and posted it right away. Awesome. Now I need to Keep writing. Feels good to know that people other than just my immediate friends and family might find my review online. So long as I can keep in mind that not everyone is going to agree with my opinion then I should be good. I’m constantly reminded of that on a daily basis anyway ;) so everyone who reads this blog go to www.filmoria.com. I am found, for now, in the reviews section :)

There is nothing better than a new book. The smell of it. The stiffness of the spine that no one has broken, making you feel as if you are the only one privileged to experience the story. The written word has a way of moving you, and of letting the imagination soar. But it’s not just the words for me- it’s the experience of reading. Total immersion in a story is one thing but I do love the book itself. The turning of the pages, the different covers, the way each one is like a piece of art on the shelf. This is why I will avoid the Kindle like the plague. It’s convenient, don’t get me wrong. Carrying the last book I read (the Book Thief) on the tube was a work out on it’s own but reading off a screen ruins part of the experience of reading for me. I will keep turning the pages, not pushing a button. As great as carrying 1000 books at a time in a single device is, I’d rather just be committed to one and, once I’m finished, put it on my shelf for a record of my adventures.

Colin firth is everywhere in Britain right now. So much so that even a bank has put him on the cover of their magazine. Not sure how much Sense that makes. But I love him anyway!!

Waitangi day craziness. Thousands of drunk kiwis flooding the streets of Westminster having walked all the way from paddington. I suppose it would have been fun had I not joined at the end and been very sober. Not my idea of the most fun ever though Bryce seems to be having fun. Oh and we totally missed the Haka. Boo :(

London by night. If you have to wait for a night bus because your boyfriend made you late while puking at London Bridge Underground station then you might as well have this view if St Stephens tower and the london eye from outside Westminster abbey. Very pretty even at 1 in the morning!!

Febreeze

I love febreeze, don’t get me wrong, but my 23 year old housemate thinks it is a viable alternative to washing his 4 day old dishes if he just sprays them with it. Sure that musty smell is gone but the visual of days gone by sweet chili sauce and mayo (which apparently should go on all food) still is with me each morning. That is if I’m not looking at my feet trying to avoid chips cheese or chocolate that has been dropped on the floor. Seriously. I really miss living in my own place.

I found this unposted blog in my dashboard there is no snow now but figured you might all enjoy a pic of when it did exust here…

Snow in London. Sorry for the slack postings lately. I have started a new job and been terribly busy. In the meantime London tried to make me feel like home and make some snow. At first it was quite apathetic amount and then became A BIT more substantial. This is a pic out the back of the clinic looking over the cattery. For most canadians this is quite a laughable amount. But not for London. Trains are getting stranded with people having to sleep on them overnight. Gatwick airport completely closed. Honestly? Sad!! No major international city should become this crippled with 2 cm of snow!!! I think Seth macfarlane said it best when he tweeted about London and snow. He said that the uk was so useless when it came to snow that when he ordered a bowl of frosted flakes roads were closed. That about sums it up sir!!

So, in early December, Bryce and I decided to embark on an adventure to Christmas markets in Copenhagen.  Little did we know what an adventure it would be.  Due to bad weather here we were quite worried about our flight, however things somewhat cleared up.  That morning we received a text message that our flight had been canceled.  I managed to get us on a noon flight, which was then delayed further because the crew was stuck in Ireland.  It was a bit crazy but we finally made it.  And all the trouble was worth it.

We met up with a friend of ours that we met in our July Contiki trip, we bought way too much stuff at the Christmas markets in Tivoli gardens.  It was a raging blizzard in Copenhagen on the Sunday of that weekend as you’ll see from most of our photos.  It was absolutely nuts!  I was really wishing i had good quality boots that weekend however my UGGS held up alright despite getting soaked!  It was very festive however and we felt absolutely like we were ready for Christmas by the end.

Hope everyone had a very Happy Christmas and wonderful new years.  Here’s to 2011!
