Well, things are moving along quite nicely now with our UK plans. I had gotten word from a friend of mine that a clinic in the UK liked my resume, but that doesn’t seem to have panned out. This may be a blessing in disguise. Due to a very generous donation from the government (in the form of a tax refund) it seems as if Bryce and I will be able to do some traveling BEFORE working. The trip we want to do includes Italy, Greece, Turkey, Israel and Egypt. Hopefully it will work out nicely. The plan I think is to go to England July (possibly via Iceland for a day or two) and suss out a flat for August, then go on our trip (hopefully some friends will take our bags that we don’t need!) then start work in August. Bryce should have school teaching starting in September and we should be golden. Bryce and I are going to sit down and go through all the finances etc this weekend and make our final decisions. This will also allow me to work right through June, which will help with money as well. My visa appointment is next week, which is kind of exciting. I have my letter from the bank (another long story), my pictures, my passport and my application allllll ready to go! I think that should be all I need and then we’ll start booking things.
There is definitely some finality coming into the scene now. Thinking that I only have 2 months of work left (a little strange). It’s a little scary to know that I don’t have a secure job at the other end. I know we won’t be destitute and poor, but for me not having the security blanket is an issue. I take inspiration from Bryce, the Karls and our new friends Martin and Teresa in order to calm my nerves and to tell myself that everything works out in the end.
In other news, some days you can inspire yourself! I ended up running 8 km the other day which is GREAT because it means that 10 km is not far off. The 10 km run I am doing is in a few weeks. I’m a littler nervous about that but less so now that I have managed to run the 8 km outside. I never thought I would ever be able to say that I ran 8 km, that’s for sure! I’m so proud to be able to say it. It’s a lot of hard work, and definitely a lot of training - running 3 times minimum per week for the last couple months. I can’t say I love it, but the race in a few weeks gives me a goal and I’m too competitive to give up. It also gives me a way to enjoy the fabulous weather (that I will miss in rainy London).
Anyhoo, that’s probably all for now. I should remind everyone to watch Glee (yay for new episodes) and to go see Date Night with my favourite, Tina Fey, as it’s very funny. I’ll let ya’ll know how the visa appointment goes!
